I'm comparing two stainless steel cookware sets from the same manufacturer. One has 8 pieces and the other has ten plus an induction cooktop. The differences in the basis sets are that the 10 piece has a 3 quart pan with lid and the 10-piece also has a larger stockpot (8 quarts versus 6 quarts).
In addition, the 10 piece has a current offer for a free portable induction cooktop.
The 10 piece is $130 more than the 8 piece, so I'm leaning toward the 8 piece unless someone says the induction cooktop is a must-have item. I see it as likely to be put in a cabinet and not used much, but I'm definitely open to hearing good things about it.
Thanks for your thoughts!
It all depends on how and what you like to cook. For me, I like to make soup ans stews. I also brown my meat in a deep pot so that I do not have to clean the stove top afterwords. Pick the brand that fits your style of cooking.
Wow, that's a good question. I personally have never used an induction cooktop, but I hear they are the bee's knees and I'd love to have one. They get really hot, really fast. Great for wok cooking.
Amazon says they run from about $130 to $170, so with the extra pieces in the 10pc set, it isn't a bad deal.
You could always eBay the cooktop. In new condition it would probably sell for between $90-100, but there's time/hassle/shipping to figure in there.
Hmmm. If it were me; even as much as I'd love to have an induction cooktop, I couldn't justify it. Like you say, it would take up counter space, and I'd only use it now and then.
